Method Statement for Building Concrete Wall Hacking

PURPOSE This procedure is prepared to establish the necessary guidelines for the control room building wall hacking works for the cable laying into the building.

SCOPE The procedure covers the general requirements on concrete wall hacking work to pass through the cable into the building in accordance with Codes, Standard Drawings & Specification of PFK.

Initial preparation and layout of the location to be hacked shall be carried out by Juraxis.

Elevation and bench marking shall be established. A joint survey with PFK must be carried out and approved before execution of the work.

MECHANICAL HACKING 4.1

Concrete wall hacking using hand tools (hammer jack) or manual (pickaxe, adze, hoe, scoop).

Hacking on the wall to create a passage for the fiber optic cable shall be carried out to the size or hole diameter as approved by PFK.

The location of the hacking point will be on the existing passage for the other cables that go into the building. Other area shall be left undisturbed.

PFK shall be informed for any hacking location below than 2 meters deep from the ground level surface.

Hacking area that exceeds 2 meter deep that requires slope protection shall be approved by PFK. A confine space requirement will be issued where quick and safe exit medium shall be provided.

Any unsuitable material found at the location shall be removed and replaced with the suitable material and compacted to the required specification.

Unless otherwise directed, access concrete wall resulted from the hacking shall be removed out.

For the hacking area that requires slope protection. All necessary sheet piling, timbering, plywood and etc shall be fixed to support the sides of the digging or hacking area to prevent any movement of adjacent soil.

The proposed hacking location shall be trimmed and properly secured from water. Water pumps shall be provided to remove ponding water, if necessary.

Dump truck shall be used to transfer surplus concrete to designated dumping area, if necessary.

RE-CONCRETE OR PATCH WORK 5.1

All re-concrete or cement or patch work shall be carried out only after have been inspected and approved by PFK

The location to be concrete patched must be secured and sealed from any water access.

QUALITY CONTROL 6.1

Request for inspection shall be carried out from time to time following construction sequences. This will ensure that each and every step of the works could be performed and then having inspected and witnessed when required before proceeding to the next stage of work.

WORK COMPLETION Checking of finished level in conformity shall be carried out and the report will be forwarded to PFK.

Machineries or equipment shall be inspected by contractor and PFK’s safety officer before utilization. The equipment shall be also passed the PFK validity sticker before utilization.

All personnel involve with the work shall be briefed on site safety regulations prior to work commencing.

To strictly observe PFK Safety regulations and Occupational Safety, Health and Environment Plan.

To conduct regular tool box meeting to inform workers about potential hazards.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) shall be as per plant requirements.

Ear protection, hand protection, safety glass or goggles and helmet to be worn as and when required.

Fire extinguisher shall be standby at all times while executing the work.

Barricade the working area using warning tape and proper signage.

HANDOVER DOCUMENT All document pertaining to the hacking work will be prepared, compiled and handover to PFK upon project completion.
